A landscape that protects and welcomes

This public works project arises from the desire to transform a place marked by risk into a space of opportunity for the community.

The Les Sorts ravine, a natural artery of Moraira (Alicante), collects a large portion of the water that flows down after torrential rains. Its capacity, now stretched to its limit, makes each episode of intense rainfall a threat to the population.

The proposal envisions a floodable park capable of absorbing excess water, transforming prevention into a landscape and safety into a new area of coexistence.

A green infrastructure that is not hidden, but offered to the city as a space for life, meeting and memory.

Between technology and everyday life

Beyond its hydraulic function, the park is conceived as a green lung that engages with the urban fabric and connects it to its immediate surroundings: the Senillar Marsh, l’Ampolla beach, and the surrounding natural trails.
Water, so scarce in the Mediterranean climate and yet so devastating in its excess, becomes the guiding principle of the project: it is collected, stored, reused, and transformed into an ecological engine, feeding new wetlands and fostering biodiversity.

Areas to contemplate and to inhabit

The park is organized into two complementary areas:

The eastern area, conceived as a natural refuge, invites relaxation and the observation of Mediterranean flora and fauna.
The more active western area incorporates a large plaza and tiered seating for cultural, educational and recreational activities.

Both sides engage in dialogue with each other, offering a changing landscape according to the season, the climate, and the rhythms of the community.

Towards a new relationship with the territory

The Les Sorts Floodable Park is not merely a technical solution to a water management problem. It is also a cultural and social initiative: to reconcile Moraira with its geography, create a new green heart, and offer a meeting place where nature and community come together.
